When rumors came out that wookiees would be reprising their role in the next Star Wars film, Peter Mayhew, the original Chewbacca, jumped right on board once the casting call went out for a 7-foot tall actor. It would certainly be a welcome homecoming for fans to have the original star once again.
According to The Guardian, Mayhew, now 69, has been in four of the Star Wars films: He was a part of the original trilogy of course, and then made a small return in Revenge of the Sith.
The rumors haven't been confirmed if Mayhew will be returning for sure, but speculation that Harrison Ford may be doing a Han Solo cameo increases the possibility that the original Chewbacca will be making a special appearance as well.
Mayhew told Bleeding Cool that "I intend to pursue the role of Chewbacca for Episode VII."
Mayhew stands an astounding 7'3, which easily passes the casting call request.
