Chris Davis hit his 51st homer of the season Tuesday night, putting his name in the record books of Orioles history.
The record which was broken Tuesday was set in 1996 by Brady Anderson. Davis hit his record breaking solo shot in the sixth inning tying the game before the Orioles took the lead and the win.
According to BaltimoreSun.com the O's, sitting at 80-70, are two games behind both AL wild-card spots which are tied between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Texas Rangers. Only 12 games remain on the Orioles schedule.
Davis didn't do all of the work to win this game, as Danny Valencia hit a triple in the ninth then scored on a sacrifice fly by Matt Wietters to put Baltimore up one. USA Today reports that Boston closer Koji Uehara had a streak of 37 consecutive outs in the ninth inning until Valencia's triple.
"Just a number of missed opportunities early on," Boston manager John Farrell said after the game.
