This past weekend was the 16th anniversary of Princess Diana's death. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge marked this occasion by visiting Diana's eldest sister along with their newborn son, Prince George of Cambridge.
Prince William and Kate Middleton spent the weekend with Lady Sarah McCorquodale and her family, according to The Daily Express. The report comes after the couple were seen boarding a helicopter with their baby a few miles from Lady Sarah's farmhouse in Stoke Rochford. Apparently, Prince William has spent time with his aunt several times in the past few years, reminiscing about his mother. His mother and her tragic death is a subject that is never far from the Duke of Cambridge's mind.
In 2009, he said, "Never being able to say the word Mummy again in your life sounds like a small thing. However, for many, including me, it is now really just a word - hollow and evoking only memories," describing the profound impact that the tragedy had on his life. A few years before that, he said that his mother's death crossed his mind at least once a day. In 2010, he and his brother, Prince Harry, both said that they think of their mother "whatever we do, wherever we are and whoever we're with."
E! Online reports that Prince Harry may have attended the family reunion over the weekend. Prince William and Kate Middleton have reportedly done their best to stay in touch with all of Prince William's relatives from his mother's side, but Prince William has always been especially close to Lady Sarah, who dated Prince Charles before his mother married him. He and his wife even attended the wedding of a cousin of Lady Sarah's along with Prince Harry in 2012.
Kensington Palace declined to comment on the Duke and Duchess' whereabouts over the weekend.
