Two men were arrested after Rihanna posted pictures of herself with a primate, the slow loris, during her vacation to Thailand. The men were arrested for allegedly peddling protected primates.
While enjoying a break from her Diamonds World Tour, Rihanna tweeted an Instagram photo that showed the pop star holding a furry slow loris. The photo was accompanied by the tweet, “Look who was talkin dirty to me!” The photo has received nearly 230,000 likes.
The slow loris is a squirrel-like primate native to Southeast Asia and is on the protected species list.
According to The Telegraph, “Phuket authorities were alerted to the picture, and last night, police arrested the two individuals who brought out the loris as a photo opportunity for tourists,” Phuket district chief, Weera Kerdsirimongkon, said.
The two men, 16 and 20, could serve up to four years in prison and pay a 40,000 baht ($1,300) fine.
On Friday, Rihanna tweeted a picture of elephants in chains with the message, “They all hail Empress when She walk by.” In addition to the slow loris, elephants are regularly exploited in Thailand for the sake of tourism.
