The Royal Mint is creating a set of commemorative coins to mark the christening of the first born son of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George. The set of £5 coins will be made in solid gold, solid silver, and a (yet to be specified) more affordable material.

"As a British institution, The Royal Mint has played a central role creating works of art as official commemorations of landmarks in the history of the Royal Family for hundreds of years. These coins will be a fitting addition to that long tradition," Shane Bissett, of The Royal Mint, expressed to BBC News on Saturday.

This isn't Prince George's first commemorative coin either. According to The Mirror, 10,000 solid silver £5 coins and 2,013 22k gold sovereigns were produced to honor the Prince's birth on July 22, 2013. Additionally, 2,013 silver pennies were produced and distributed free of charge to the parents of babies born on the same day.

The Prince's christening will be a private event (for close family only), taking place at Chapel Royal, St James's Palace on October 23, 2013. BBC says that Prince George will wear an exact replica of the christening gown originally made in 1841 for Queen Victoria's eldest daughter, Victoria, the Princess Royal.

The coins are currently available for pre-order on The Royal Mint's website ranging in price from £13 (approx. $21) to £8200 (approx. $13,238). If you want to add the coin to your collection, pre-ordering is advised. These are very likely to sell out fast.
