Nick Petrecki was re-signed to the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday. The defenseman signed a contract back in March 2009 with the Sharks, where he was assigned to the Worcester Sharks. Now, he may see some NHL playing time for the 2013-14 season.

HockeyFights.com reports that the club's Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson made a one-year, $715 thousand deal with the defenseman Wednesday.

In the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Petrecki was the Sharks' first-round pick, according to NBC Sports. He then spent the next few years playing in the AHL with the Worcester Sharks. Last season, he played for almost 12 minutes in a game against Anaheim, contributing to their 3-2 win.

At 6'3'' and 213 pounds, Petrecki is known to demonstrate a strong defense with many hard, heavy hits – he was even punished with game misconduct for headbutting in a game against the University of Maine.

If the Sharks experience a few defensive injuries this season, Petrecki will surely see some quality playing time.
