Oscar winner Tom Hanks attempted to serve his civil duties in Los Angeles earlier this week on a domestic violence case, but was short lived after the case was dismissed for jury tampering.
According to Whittier Daily News, Hanks was approached by a staff member from the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office during off time to thank Hanks for his service. The star struck employee was spotted by a member of the defense speaking to and shaking hands with the Apollo 13 actor and was quickly reported.
Attorney Andrew Flier, who was representing defendant Oleh Yements who was accused of beating his girlfriend and faced deportation, explained, “She was seen with Mr. Hanks in the stairwell of the building when she came up to him and thanked him and said how everyone was impressed that a celebrity would be here.”
The case was dismissed and Yements was only asked to pay $150 in fines.
TMZ reports that Hanks has not discussed the case since its dismissal, only noting that he was there to “serve justice.”
