Fans of True Blood have one more season to enjoy their favorite vampires and supernatural creatures in Bon Temps, Louisiana. HBO announced Tuesday that the upcoming seventh season would be the final season of one of the most popular shows in HBO’s history. The final season will air during the summer of 2014 and will consist of ten episodes. The show has just finished its sixth season late this August and had been averaging around 10 million viewers during this last season.
The show follows Sookie Stackhouse, a faerie who can hear people’s thoughts, and her dealings with vampires and other supernatural characters in the fictional town of Bon Temps, Louisiana. The show became popular in part due to its sometime overboard sexual scenes as well as an underlying theme of acceptance for people that are different from the norm. The show has also tackled other hot button issues including homosexuality, religion and even the role of government.
In a statement released by USA Today, HBO Program Chief Michael Lombardo in which he talks about how True Blood’s creator Alan Ball, has assembled an outstanding cast and brought to life the novels written by Charlaine Harris. “He has created a show that has taken its devoted fans on an incredible journey and has become a show that they have absolutely fallen in love with” said Ball. He said that the show had exceeded his wildest expectations due to the outstanding writing which has led to several Emmy awards during the show’s airing.
Ball also talked to CBS News about the excellent work of Brian Buckner, the man who replaced him as the executive producer of the show for season six. Ball admitted that it will be very sad to say goodbye to the characters of Bon Temps, but there is excitement and anticipation for the final season.
