During the offseason, Von Miller attempted to collude with an NFL urine collector and swap out his urine sample in order to pass the test.
An anonymous source told USA Today that the NFL and representatives of Miller found out about this attempt to cheat the drug testing system in August while Miller was appealing a four-game suspension.
The original suspension was given to Miller after he submitted a diluted urine sample after an offseason practice. The suspension was bumped up to six games after the news about Miller conspiring with the urine collector was discovered, ESPN reports.
The collector, who worked in Miami where Miller spends his offseasons, switched out Millers sample with someone else's. This slick little move may have worked had a second collector not realized that Miller was not even in the city where his collection was supposed to take place.
The collector who tried to help Miller out has been dismissed.
Miller could have been suspended for up to a year for trying to influence a collector, but it was determined that the collector was also involved, since it was reported no money was exchanged, hence the six-game suspension.
