Willem Dafoe has been cast as Peter Van Houten for the film adaptation of The Fault in Our Stars.
The Fantastic Mr. Fox actor has signed on to play the reclusive and cranky author Houten from John Green's novel, Entertainment Weekly reports. Houten's book, An Imperial Affliction, interests the main character of the story.
Dafoe joins Shailene Woodley who was cast in the main role of Hazel Grace Lancaster.
MTV reports that Fault's director Josh Boone announced through Twitter on Friday that Dafoe had been cast. He wrote, "One of my favorite actors, Willem Dafoe, will play Peter Van Houten in #tfiosmovie."
The story revolves around Woodley's character of Hazel Grace who is a cancer patient that meets and falls in love with Augustus Waters (Ansel Elgort), who is in her Cancer Kids Support Group. Houten's novel is Hazel's favorite book and he plays a part in the romance between the two teens.
