Zac Efron hasn’t commented on reports that he went to rehab five months ago, but the former High School Musical star was spotted in South America recently, where fans rushed to see him.
E! News reports that Efron recently went on a backpacking trip with his father to Machu Picchu. He also visited Cusco in Peru, where he posed for pictures with fans and was all smiles.
TMZ notes that the photos that have surfaced from the trip were taken on Sept. 11. That’s just after his appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival to promote Parkland, his new film.
This week, he was spotted leaving Peru and fans mobbed him at the airport.
The world first heard about Efron’s rehab stint on Tuesday, with sources telling E! News that he had stopped drinking. But a TMZ report later claimed that Efron was seeking help for cocaine and had actually undergone outpatient treatment twice in the past 12 months. There were even reports that he partied with Charlie Sheen, allegations that Sheen strongly denies.
It’s likely that we’ll never hear an official statement until Efron himself decides to talk about it. His rep told TMZ, “Don't think we'll be making a comment.”
