When a purring cat wakes Caroline and Max up, they debate whether they should allow the cat in or not.
Caroline points out that Max wouldn’t even let a man who has shouted, “I’ve been stabbed” in to which Max had yelled, “Shut up!”
Max clarifies that the man had said, “I think I’ve been stabbed.” How can someone think they’ve been stabbed?
The cat purr sounds like a “Hello” to Max’s ears, but Caroline is adamant about not being a cat lady with twenty-seven cats.
Caroline asks Max about the twenty-seven gnomes under her bed, yet Max asserts that those gnomes understand her and that she’s saving them until she gets a yard.
Sophie knocks on the girls’ door to complain about the cat. Caroline and Max’s neighbor says that in Poland there’s a belief about not allowing cats in because they are supposed to be reincarnated souls. Plus, they bring in the “bad Jews.”
The girls return to bed, and the purring stops. A suspicious Caroline goes into Max’s bedroom to find Max already bringing the feline into their home through the window.
The next morning at the diner Max tries to persuade Earl to take the cat, although Max doesn’t really want to give up the cat. Max even asks Oleg and Han if they want the cat, but they decline.
A customer overhears the waitresses talking about giving away the cat, so she offers to take it. Though Max was hesitant at first about giving away the cat, she feels like she needs to assess the potential owner first.
Max and Caroline go to the lady’s home to find that not only does she have one cat, she also has plenty of cats with names.
Caroline suggests Max turn the cat into the shelter, but Max refuses because the cat’s “not pretty enough.” Before the girls continue with their conversation, the cat lady interrupts them in the hallway.
Caroline and Max apologize to the cat lady for being crazy and escape the lair of hairballs in which the cats seemed to be attacking the lady.
The girls head to a fancy neighborhood to give the cat away. Nevertheless, when the former owner comes looking for the cat, Max is forced to find the cat and return it to its rightful owner. Yet, can Max really let go of the cat?
