As Crosby is trying to make Jabbar lunch, Adam comes over and tells him that he got the rights to the songs Ashes of Rome already recorded at their studio.

Max walks through the hallways of his school taking candid pictures of students for the yearbook. He starts taking pictures of a group of girls, one of which is crying, and they yell at him to leave them alone.

A real estate agent takes pictures of Zeek and Camille’s house, stating that they would get top dollar for it. Zeek, frustrated at the idea of selling, walks away.

Sarah goes to her Carl’s apartment, one of her tenants, to fix a clogged toilet with a plumbing snake. Thinking she’s fixed it, she flushes the toilet and water sprays from the back of the toilet everywhere.

Joel is frustrated after getting of the phone with Peet, the architect that Joel is doing construction for. Julie offers suggestions for Joel to set boundaries with Peet on the job changing from what was originally asked, possibly charging more than the original bid. Sarah calls Joel and asks for help with the toilet.

Adam and Crosby talk to the band Ashes of Rome and offer to produce their album. Crosby is still hesitant of working with their lead singer, Oliver, but Adam couldn’t be more excited when they say yes to the deal.

Kristina has a conference with Mr. Carlson, Max’s teacher, about taking the pictures of the girl crying at school. Mr. Carlson states that he’s moved Max to do the layout for photography, rather than take pictures. Kristina pleads stating that he really loves doing photography and Mr. Carlson says that he can take pictures, just not for the yearbook.

Sarah opens her door and it’s Ryan. He comes in and she starts to talk about maybe rushing into the marriage, and how Amber is not talking to her. Ryan is actually there for the toilet, and Sarah, not knowing what else to say, quickly takes him to the apartment.

Oliver talks to Crosby in the studio about re-doing one of the songs they’ve already recorded. Adam talks to Crosby as Oliver leaves. Adam states that Crosby needs to be a “producer” and get the process going, rather than re-recording songs.

Max shows Hank the photo of the girl crying and he says it’s great. Kristina comes in to try to talk to Max about the picture, and how he can’t take pictures like that. Max states that Hank has taught him that pictures capture moments, and that’s a real moment. Hank pipes in and stands by that. Hank sends Max in the back of his studio knowing Kristina wants to talk to him. She tells him about Max getting demoted on the yearbook and Hank adamantly states that Max is a photographer, and should be taking pictures.

As Peet and Joel are at the site, she starts to talk about more things she wants done. Before he can actually say it, Peet offers to talk about boundaries over dinner the following night.

Ryan comes home and talks to Amber about speaking with her Mom. Ryan asks Amber why she didn’t tell her about the fight she had with her Mom. Amber tries to blow it off as not being a big deal, and “you know how my Mom is”. Ryan asks her to be more specific, and when she tells him about having told her Mom about the car accident and fight at the funeral last year, Ryan walks away.

The next day Ryan is back replacing the toilet, having had to tear out the wall to get to the pipes. Sarah comes to ask how long it will take, and make small talk, but Ryan just states that he needs to work.

Julia brings Victor to her parent’s house so he can help work on the car, and his reading. Julia talks to her Mom while she’s baking, expressing her thanks for the car but her Mom quickly interjects that she hates the car. She explains about wanting to sell the house to Julia, and the plans she has in mind to travel. Camille feels like she’s lost her ability to be heard by Zeek.

Joel and Peet discuss boundaries during their dinner, and drinks. Peet states that she wants the same thing, to make great houses but also come in under budget. She orders another round of Martinis.

Still in the studio recording, Crosby gets to his wits end about Oliver. Crosby and Adam fight about staying to record more, as Crosby gets a text about getting diapers. Crosby ends the fight by walking out, stating there was a reason that the label dropped the band.

Crosby runs into a very drunk Joel while he’s picking up diapers at the store. Crosby offers to drive him home. Outside of Joel’s house in Crosby’s car, they eat cake, as Joel tries to sober himself up. A song comes on the radio, and they talk about how simple but great it is. You can see Crosby has an idea.

Kristina has a conference with Mr. Carlson and the Principal, and explains that she and Adam sat with Max to try to come to an understanding about his photography. She asks if it’s possible for Max to take photos for the yearbook, but the Principal, understanding how well Max did last year as Student President, agrees with Mr. Carlson’s decision.

Julia talks to Joel about being drunk, and asks if she needs to be upset about it. Joel assures her that she shouldn’t be. Julia asks how the meeting with Peet went. Joel tries to discuss it with her, but Julia feels that Peet may be taking advantage of him. Joel slams his hand down stating that it’s his business and his decision, and walks out of the room.

Crosby walks into the studio with some albums under his arm. He talks to the band, and Adam, stating that these great albums – The Beatles, Nirvana, Springsteen, etc. – were made on shoestring budgets. He tells Oliver that they need to strip the sound down and record without any fancy layers. Oliver agrees.

Julia picks up Victor from his time helping on the car with Zeek, and tells her Dad that she really needs to listen about Camille’s plan of selling the house. Zeek tells Julia that she’s butting in, but Julia starts to cry fighting for her mother to be heard, and Zeek tries to comfort Julia.

Kristina talks to Max about not taking photos anymore for the yearbook, and how they want him to do just the layout. Upset, Max states that it’s not fair. Kristina agrees and says she’s mad about their decision too. She offers to sit with him so they can be mad together.

Ryan goes to Sarah’s apartment and explains that his family life was not good, and how lucky she is to have the family she does. He tells her that he’s trying to be worthy for Amber, working on correcting the things that happened in the past, and that he loves Amber.
