Sleep deprived, and now setting the alarm clock wrong, Crosby and Jasmine are woken up by Jabbar who is now late for school. In a mad rush Crosby jumps out of bed to get him there on time for his first day of school.
As all the students enter the school campus, the parents are in a hurry to get to the volunteer sign-up sheet, to ensure the best “job” possible. As Julie is trying to get her kids in, a parent, Ed Bliss (David Denman) stops her and asks her to watch his kids while he runs back to his car to get their lunches. Before she can say no, he is off. When he comes back, they are both in a race to get to the volunteer sheet but are too late, left with the unwanted “sustainability” recycling program.
Kristina interviews a woman, Heather Hall, to be her campaign manager. Pushy and bossy, Heather turns around the interview asking many of the questions to Kristina. Before Kristina can really get in a word, Heather gives herself the job.
Outside Zeek and Camille’s house, Amber and Ryan talk about their approach to telling the news of their engagement to everyone, as they are making out in the car. Max startles them by taking a picture, telling them that they need to get inside so everyone can eat. As they enter the house everyone welcomes back Ryan from his tour of duty. Without much hesitation, Amber announces their engagement, not to too much delight of her Mom, Sarah.
Zeek is outside repairing a light on the garage, without much luck. Camille tells him that their insurance is insisting on them getting an alarm system. Reluctantly, Zeek tells her to set up the appointment.
Julia and Ed do their sustainability work passing out flyers and talking to the kids about the importance of recycling during their school lunch. He talks a little too harshly to one student. Julia sees Victor and says hi, but he says that everyone hates her and is embarrassing him.
Adam comes home to a house full of strangers as Kristina is in full campaign swing, turning her living room into her campaign office. Heather insists on sitting down with Adam to go over some questions and he unwillingly agrees to speak with her the following day.
Max talks to Hank about Amber’s engagement as Hank is looking over some of Max’s photos. Hank questions it but Max supports it, asking how it wouldn't be a good thing.
Sarah talks to Amber, questioning the motive of Ryan’s engagement, whether it was something planned or if it was just spur of the moment. Enthusiasm fading, Amber seems very frustrated talking about the subject.
Zeek and Camille walk the house with the alarm company salesman. Zeek, reluctant to hear much of what he has to say, throws verbal jabs at him throughout. When Zeek sees the $2,800 price tag, he states “that’s not happening”. With a grin and a pat on the salesman’s back, Zeek walks out leaving Camille to sort it out.
Heather talks to Adam about any hidden or history of anything that he’s done in the past that could come up during the campaign. Annoyed at the time he feels he’s wasting, Adam questions why he has to do this, and questions Kristina’s possibility of winning.
Amber, while fooling around in bed with Ryan, asks when he decided to ask her to marry him, if it was planned. Ryan states that he did it spur of the moment.
Heather reads, and makes suggestions to Kristina’s speech. Heather asks if she thinks Adam is really on board with the campaign. Kristina says she does think so, but Heather suggests that she ask him if he really is.
After having just put the baby down for a nap, Crosby walks into the living room and asks Jabbar to turn the TV down. Feeling the lack of attention, Jabbar starts to play loudly, bouncing a basketball in the room. When Crosby yells at him to keep quiet, Crosby quickly tries to diffuse the situation and tells Jabbar that he can have the decision of where to go for dinner.
Sorting through the trash, placing items in either the recycling or compost bin, Julia and Ed sit and talk about how he is now unemployed, feeling inadequate of taking over doing things with the kids. Julia lies and tells him that she is still working for the law firm, working from home.
Hank goes to Sarah’s and gives her a candle as a housewarming present. Hank asks about Amber’s engagement and how well Sarah is taking it. They find common ground saying that it may not be the best idea for them to get married now and that it seems too rushed.
Kristina questions Adam support of her running for Mayor. Adam thinks that the timing is wrong, that Kristina still needs to rest still, and he worried that it will be too stressful for her health. Kristina stands up for decision, saying that nearly dying of cancer is the exact reason why she needs to do this now.
Crosby and Jasmine take Jabbar out to his favorite restaurant. Jasmine tries to breastfeed the baby, but all the baby does is cry loudly. Receiving complaints about the noise, and possibly the breastfeeding, the manager comes to them and tells them they need to leave. As the rest of the family leave, Crosby yells loudly at the manager and other customers, throwing money on the table.
Sarah goes and talks to Adam about the talk she has with Hank about Amber’s engagement. Adam actually thinks that if they are really in love, that it’s a good thing. He also reminds Sarah that Ryan is a completely different kind of person than her ex was.
While Zeek is in the middle of trying to fix a window, Camille broaches the subject of downsizing and buying a condo, and how good it would be for them to not have to worry about maintaining a large house and how they could travel. “This is the start of our Act 3”, she says to him. “I just don’t want it to slip away.”
Julia runs into Ed after dropping the kids off at school and admits that she lied to him about her being unemployed now too. He says he understands and that it even took him six weeks to say the word “unemployed”.
Crosby takes Jabbar out of class early to hang out with him at the studio. Crosby confesses how hard the new baby has been on all of them and the reason for taking him out of class is to spend more time with him.
Knowing that she doesn’t want to push her away, Sarah goes to talk to Amber about her engagement, asking if she can really see spending the rest of her life with Ryan. She says yes, and Sarah states that’s all she needs to hear. Pulling out wedding magazines and alcohol, Sarah says she wants to give Amber the wedding she’s always dreamed of.
Just before Kristina is about to make a speech in front of a large crowd, she asks Adam again if he’s on board. He says yes, and as he’s watching her speak, looking at how supportive the crowd is of her, gives an unreadable look that could mean he is either supportive or he can’t believe that she’s really going through with this.
