In this episode of The Blacklist, Reddington predicts an impending catastrophe, rooted by the work of an assassin, called "The Freelancer." Together, Liz and Red go undercover to prevent his next target, Floriana Campo from being killed. Also a newly re-hired CIA agent, Meera Malik, makes her first appearance.
The episode begins with Raymond Reddingon making a plea for immunity with Assistant Director Cooper and Agent Ressler. He wants this in exchange for giving up major criminals from the Blacklist. In order to get that immunity, Reddington must give up the info he knows about train accident that was going to happen. Reddington knows someone called the freelancer. He is a hired assassin that really works for Reddington. In this episode, the freelancer is a plot device.
So Cooper decides to let Keen and Reddington go to Montréal. While at a French restaurant Keen and Reddington talk about Reddington’s past. Keen tries to profile him and she comes to the conclusion that he likes loose personal ties and he can easily make friends with strangers. Reddington connects with one of his contacts in the restaurants, gives him $100, and escapes out the backdoor to the surveillance van where Ressler was.
He reveals to Keen and Ressler that “the freelancer’s” next target is a politician named Floriana Campo. Reddington knew this from the beginning. But there is more to this woman. Floriana Campo is a fake. She has masqueraded as a political savior but she has been running a child slave trafficking ring.
Reddington stages an assassination. He gets the FBI to track the freelancer while Campo is alone in the room. He poisons her drink while at a celebratory dinner. He tells Keen what Campo really stands for and Campo confesses.
This episode was very entertaining. The Blacklist is my favorite show of the fall season so far. Even though the episode focused heavily on Reddington and his past, Keen begins to trust Reddington and believe that Tom is not who he says he is. Reddington is also shown as a fighter of real “evil”. At the end of the episode, the FBI finds a shipping container of young children. So he was right again. The Blacklist airs on NBC.
