This week’s episode of The Good Wife was absolutely insane! If you thought the biggest drama of the season would be Cary and Alicia’s departure, you thought wrong. Plus, this week was full of very valuable lessons. For instance, don’t piss off Will, like, ever. Or, don’t trust Robyn with any kind of important secret. Maybe we should take this step by step…
It all begins with Diane admitting to Will that she bad-mouthed him to the press — oops! She tries to humbly apologize, but, being the bad boy he is, Will isn’t having it. He decides it’s time to gather a few of the equity partners and stage a coup. Of course, he mistakenly includes his trusted companion Alicia in this meeting when, little does he know, she’s planning a little coup of her own with Cary — double oops!
Meanwhile, work must go on as usual and Alicia is dealing with a simple case of breach of contract. A paid surrogate mother finds out the baby has a potential birth defect. The parents want her to abort, but she believes the baby to be perfectly healthy and refuses. Ok, so maybe not so simple. In order to win their case, Alicia and David Lee must prove that the baby could still be healthy and that their client has every right not to abort. The case soon turns into a nasty battle, with parents and surrogate mother going head-to-head. Despite all the back and forth, the case comes to a swift close when everyone discovers that the baby is actually in it’s third trimester, and thus, not abort-able.
And it’s a good thing for Alicia that the case wraps up so nicely, because everything else at work is getting rapidly out of hand. While the equity partners continue to try and push Diane out (to which she continues to refuse), Will approaches Alicia about becoming the new managing partner. Gardner, Florrick, and Associates? Probably not going to happen. But the scare is enough to freak Cary out. Hasn’t he been through enough of Alicia’s back and forth? Maybe he should look for a less indecisive partner…
But while Alicia is mulling her decision over, Will proves once again that Alicia is merely a secretary to him, just a pawn in his crazy game. He let’s her sit in on his and Diane’s meeting, while she sits there in silence. Luckily, this is just the push she needed to declare her allegiance to Cary. Florrick, Agos, and Associates all the way!
The rest of the Florrick clan also has a bit of drama themselves: Peter has to learn how to deal with his hot, but stubborn ethics chair; and Grace is learning how to look like Serena Van Der Woodsen and not piss off her mom.
As much drama as there was this week — and there was a lot — it seems like things are about to get seriously out of control in the weeks to come. Now that Kalinda knows about Alicia’s departure (Robyn spilled the beans), and Diane and Will are feuding, and Cary and Alicia are planning to leave sooner than expected, it feels like the firm is going to erupt at any moment, and few heads are definitely going to roll.
