Steve McQueen, whose latest work 12 Years A Slave is out in theaters on limited release, is developing a drama for HBO.
Deadline exclusively reported the news and noted that the project is being fast tracked. The project, described as "Six Degrees of Separation meets Shame," was co-written by McQueen and Matthew Michael Carnahan.
Hip-hip producer Russell Simmons, Ian Canning and Emile Sherman are also involved in the untitled HBO production.
The plot is set in New York about a young African-American who joins high society, but his past may not be as it appears. Potential actors are already being looked at for the HBO drama.
As previously reported, McQueen's latest directorial work 12 Years started hitting theaters in a limited release a couple weekends ago.
The movie has been garnering buzz since it was shown off at film festivals in September. Twelve Years is already considered an Oscar frontrunner. The slave drama starring Chiwetel Ejiofor has garnered three nominations from the Gotham Independent Film Awards.
Ejifor was nominated for Best Actor while Lupita Nyong'o is up for Breakthrough Actor. The film was also nominated for Best Feature.
