ABC is looking to continue its commitment to the fairy tale genre. The Disney-owned network has reportedly ordered a fairy tale musical pilot from Dan Fogelman, the creator of The Neighbors.

According to Variety, the project, titled Galavant, will feature music written by Alan Menken with a script written by Fogelman. It centers on the handsome Prince Galavant, who is looking to fight for his one true love. Unfortunately, a king stole her and Galavant is out for revenge.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that Glenn Slater will write the lyrics. Slater, Menken and Fogelman will executive produce the project. They recently worked together on a musical episode of The Neighbors, which is entering its second season.

Galavant will be Fogelman’s first project under an overall deal he recently signed with ABC Studios. He has also worked on several films, including Crazy, Stupid, Love. and Tangled.

The musical genre has had a revival on TV thanks to Glee and the recent success of ABC’s own Nashville. ABC is also home to Once Upon A Time and its spin-off, Once Upon A Time In Wonderland.

Menken, of course, is best known for his association with the Disney animated classics of the 1990s and has eight Oscars.
