Amazon announced today that it has picked up three new pilots from the likes of actor Jason Schwartzman and writers Roman Coppola, Jeremy Garelick and Jill Soloway.
The online retail giant said that the three half-hour pilots will be posted on Prime Instant Video in the U.S. early next year. In the U.K., they will be available on Amazon’s LOVEFiLM service.
“We are thrilled to be working on these pilots with such talented creators with passionate visions for new shows,” Roy Price, Director of Amazon Studios, said in a statement. “We are excited to hear what customers think of the shows.”
Up first is Mozart in the Jungle from Coppola (The Darjeeling Limited) and Schwartzman (Saving Mr. Banks, Moonrise Kingdom). The two are working with Alex Timbers, the Tony nominated director of Peter and the Starcatcher and is based on Blair Tindall’s memoir of the same name. It’s about sex, drugs and...classical music.
The Outlaws comes from Garelick (The Break-Up) and Jon Weinbach and focuses on a professional football team. Former New York Giants player Michael Strahan, who co-hosts Live! with Kelly Ripa, is consulting, along with Matt Alvarez.
Transparent is written and directed by Salloway (The United States of Tara, Six Feet Under). Jeffrey Tambor, Judith Light, Gaby Hoffmann, Amy Landecker and Jay Duplass have been cast in the pilot, which is about a family in Los Angeles with boundary issues.
Like past Amazon pilots, their future will depend on viewer feedback. According to Deadline, Amazon is also working on the drama pilots Bosch and The After, which have still not officially been announced.
