We mentioned last week that we were disappointed with the lack of action in episode two of AHS: Cove but this week really moved things along in terms of both plot and character development! From Fiona's shocking history, to Misty's strange attachment to Kyle, we compiled the top five moments and revelations in this episode.
5. Misty Day's fascination with Kyle
Since Mist Day (Lily Rabe) was put in charge of healing Kyle (all with a little help from Stevie Nicks), we should have known that she would grow attached to him. When Zoe (Taissa Farmiga) took him away from her custody, we saw a growing anger rise within her, and something tells us this was not the last we're going to see of Misty. After all, Zoe promised Misty she'd be back for her. We can't wait to see what crazy games she'll play next!
4. Marie Laveau cruelly messes with an infertile Cordelia
Poor Cordelia! All she wants is to mother a baby, but after she is told by a doctor she cannot have children, she pays a visit to the one person, er, witch, that can help: Marie Laveau (Angela Bassett). After Marie explains an intense, bloody ceremony about how to go about doing the spell, Cordelia is ready to give her anything she wants. Too bad Marie laughs in her face and slyly tells Delia that her mother, Fiona, messed with the wrong witch. Somehow we think the battle between Marie and Cordelia/Fiona will grow more and more intense - after all, it seems scary enough to be on Marie's bad side.
3. Queenie befriends the minotaur...in the strangest way possible
After wonderful scenes between Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe) and Madame LaLaurie (Kathy Bates) in which Queenie orders the Madame around to serve her every need (including her love of potato chips, apparently), the big, scary minotaur we've seen from previous episodes comes looking for the Madame. Once Queenie realizes that the Minotaur is the Madame's former servant Bastian (and we can't forget Marie's lover), she devises a plan. Using the Madame's blood to lure the beast, she successfully does so and delivers an emotional speech about wanting to be loved. We all know that Queenie hasn't had much of a love life, so for her to deliver this genuine speech truly touched us - and inspired her to touch herself, which she did, in front of the minotaur who quite frankly seemed to like it. We wonder how Marie will feel about this!
2. Zombie Kyle returns home to incest surprise, Zoe walks into murder surprise
Who better to not recognize your naked body other than your own mother? Seemingly normal at first, Kyle's mother seemed to love her son a little too much. When she thought he was dead she wanted to go so far as to hang herself, and when she found him (somewhat) alive, she started passionately kissing his body. Kyle, even in zombie form, did not like this. Speaking his first word in his new state, he screamed "No" at his mother when she embraced him, and smashed her head with a trophy. Zoe walked into the house later and found his mother dead on the floor along with Kyle, who appeared behind her, covered in his blood. Yikes.
1. Fiona's ghosts come back to attack
And for the big shocker of the episode, Fiona successfully surprised us with her powers yet again. We got a glimpse into her past of her as a beautiful young woman becoming more and more powerful, enough to kill the former Supreme and her mentor. We learned the new Supreme slowly sucks the powers out of the old one, and young Fiona just sped the process up by slashing the Supreme's throat. Oh, along with cutting the tongue of butler Spalding (Denis O'Hare), so he couldn't speak of the situation.
So when Fiona learns that Madison (Emma Roberts) is slowly sucking the powers out of her - as seen when she goes to meet the hot neighbor and lights his curtains on fire when she gets kicked out - she takes her out for brunch and cocktails and watches her youthfulness shine. We were under the impression that Fiona was going to pass on her gifts and powers to Madison by mentoring her, as she was everything Fiona was in her youth, and Fiona is clearly jealous. At the end of the night, the ladies arrive back drunk and blissfully happy. Standing in the exact same spot she killed her mentor, she explains to Madison that she is the new Supreme and that she must kill her. But instead of Madison killing Fiona, Fiona actually kills Madison! Now there is no new Supreme. Fiona is also dying of cancer and refuses to get chemotherapy treatments, so we are very, very curious to see how much longer she can last as the Supreme and what it means for the future of the Coven...
In the meantime, check out the preview for next week's episode!
