Atlanta Falcons receiver Julio Jones could miss the rest of the season after injuring his foot during Monday night’s game against the New York Jets. The Flacons lost to the Jets 30-28.
After the games Jones had X-rays taken. The x-rays came back negative. However a CAT-scan on Tuesday revealed something more serious. The Falcons believe that Jones’s injury could be a foot fracture and are worried that he’ll miss the rest of the season, according to NFL.com.
''He saw our doctors this morning,'' Falcons coach Mike Smith told the Associated Press. 'He is going to have a second opinion tomorrow. The first reports were not encouraging, but we will wait and see what the second opinion comes back as.''
In Monday night’s game, Jones had eight catches for 99 yards. Jones isn’t the first Flacon player to be injured this season. The Falcons have been plagued by injuries this season. Running back Steven Jackson, linebacker Sean Weatherspoon, defensive end Kroy Biermann, fullback Bradie Ewing, right tackle Mike Johnson, Sam Baker, cornerback Asante Samuel, and linebacker Akeem Dent have all had injuries this season. Roddy White, a four-time Pro Bowl receiver left Monday’s game after suffering a hamstring injury.
Jones leads the league in catches with 41, and is second in yards receiving with 580, the AP notes. The Falcons head into their bye week with a 1-4 record and four games behind the New Orleans Saints. Losing Jones for the rest of the season would hurt the Falcons, as he is one of their top players offensively. Only one elite playmaker for the offense is healthy and that is Tony Gonzalez. The Falcons better hop that their offense gets healthy soon if they lose Jones for the season, otherwise they will struggle all season.
