Ailing radio and television icon Casey Kasem has more to worry about than being sick. His kids are in an ugly feud with their stepmom, Jean Kasem, who they claim won’t allow them to see their father for the past three months.
Kerri, Julie and Mike, Kasem’s eldest kids from his first marriage, stood outside his Holmby Hills estate on Tuesday with signs, protesting their stepmother.
They claim Julie, whom their father married in 1980, won’t answer their phone calls and turns them away when they show up at the home.
“He can't really speak, but he knows we're there. And last time we saw him, he could shuffle a little bit. He had a hard, very hard, time walking. He was just deteriorating due to Parkinson's disease," ABC reports. Even the America’s Top 40 host’s brother, Mouner Kasem, who has been estranged from him since he married Jean, said, "I've got a feeling I might not see him again, and that's why I'm here.”
According to TMZ, Kerri says their protest isn’t about the money, they know they aren’t in his will and haven’t been for years. She said she just wants to see her father, passing along the message, "Your children are here for you. We have not abandoned you."
Kasem is now 81 years old. Not only were his kids and other family members outside the estate protesting on Tuesday, but also his former co-workers. Jean called the cops on them from inside the house.
