Independent rapper Chance the Rapper name has been circling around the Internet but the 20 year old is not even signed to a record label. The rapper who doesn’t believe he should sign to a record label because there’s no point has been coveted by a number of labels lately, one being TDE (Top Dawg Entertainment) which is home to Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Ab Soul and Jay Rock.
Chance the Rapper dropped his mixtape Acid Rap and it seemed like he was an overnight success. Since the release of the mixtape he was featured on Lil Wayne’s Dedication 5 and appeared on the remix to James Blake’s track “Life Round Here” He also has toured with Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.
In an interview withRolling Stone he stated that there is no reason to sign to a record label because it’s a dead industry.
According to MTVRapFix Chance the Rapper could have been on the same label as Kendrick Lamar if he chose to.
In an interview with AILindstrom Top Dawg Entertainment’s President Punch talked about his hopes of signing Chance the Rapper.
Punch said, “I believe Dave [Free] was talking to Chance and having conversations. I know Chance and Ab-Soul have a good relationship. But it was just talks.”
TDE rapper Ab-Soul was featured on a song off Chance’s mixtape called “Smoke Again.”
