CNN has renewed documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock’s Inside Man for a second season.
The show, which was announced last summer, premiered in April and focused on parts of American life that rarely earn notice. It was the second major new show for the news network, following Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown. That show earned a second season in May.
CNN announced today that Spurlock’s show will get a second season as well. A new, eight-episode run will begin in spring 2014.
“Coming on the heels of a terrific first season – not to mention a successful documentary covering the world’s biggest boy band – Morgan is ready to tackle even more provocative stories on CNN,” CNN Worldwide President Jeff Zucker said in a statement. “Inside Man is the perfect example of the type of program our audience is looking for when we aren’t covering the news of the day. We are happy to be continuing our relationship with Morgan and his excellent production team at Warrior Poets.”
Spurlock earned an Oscar nomination for his 2004 documentary Super Size Me, which focused on fast food. His other recent films include The Greatest Movie Ever Sold and Mansome. This year, he directed the One Direction concert film, This Is Us. He has also produced projects for Yahoo and ESPN, as well as FX’s 30 Days.
The new episodes of Inside Man will focus on “Celebrity,” which will be about the public’s desire for famous stars, and “Income Disparity,” on the gap between the rich and the 99 percent.
