Damon Lindelof may have finally given in to the haters who bombarded his Twitter page on a daily basis, telling him that he botched the ending of Lost. The Star Trek Into Darkness writer and frequent J.J. Abrams collaborator has quit Twitter.
“After much thought and deliberation, I’ve decided t,” his final tweet, left unfinished, read. According to Variety, the message was sent at 1:21 p.m. Monday. If you try to get to @damonlindelof, you will get an error page, as it no longer exists.
Lindelof, whose HBO project Leftovers was just picked up to go straight to series, was one of the first Hollywood screenwriters to embrace Twitter as a way to interact with fans. But he quickly found himself apologizing for silly things, like Alice Eve’s gratuitous underwear scene in Star Trek Into Darkness.
The final straw may have come when Twitter followers began complaining to him that Breaking Bad’s ending was much better than Lost. Lindelof tried to make light of it by retweeting several of the tweets. He also wrote columns praising Breaking Bad for The Hollywood Reporter and Vulture.
His THR piece may have been the strongest evidence that he was ready to put down his Twitter page. In it, he writes, “I will finally stop talking about” the Lost finale. “I'm not doing this because I feel entitled or above it -- I'm doing it because I accept that I will not change hearts nor minds. I will not convince you they weren't dead the whole time, nor resent you for believing they were despite my infinite declarations otherwise.”
Lindelof may have left Twitter, but Twitter is probably still yelling about Lost's finale. And still no one's talking about his new show.
