On Thursday, quotes from Tori Spelling’s new memoir circulated and suggested that she and her husband, Dean McDermott were in financial straights. They couldn't even afford to get him a vasectomy. McDermott has responded, saying that they not doing that bad and have several projects in the works.
“Right now things are going well,” McDermott told Us Weekly on Friday. “I have several exciting projects in the works.” McDermott said that repeats of Dean and Tori's Backyard Bash have earned good ratings and he’s working on his first cookbook, The Gourmet Dad. He added that Spelling’s memoir, titled Spelling It Like It Is, “just launched this week and things are good.”
Spelling had reportedly spoken with People Magazine for a feature that included quotes from her memoir.
“We're in the entertainment business, and things change year to year,” she said. “We don't have a series on the air right now, so we have to be more restrictive of what we can spend, just like anyone who doesn't currently have a steady job.”
She also blamed her “money problems” on her upscale childhood as the daughter of the late TV mogul Aaron Spelling. Spelling said that they could not afford a vasectomy because of their financial issues.
But McDermott told Us that this is not the case. They might not be super rich, but they aren’t exactly poor. “Could we afford a vasectomy? Probably,” he said. “Was it a tougher time for us financially? Yea. For sure. That's just the truth of it -- it's the nature of this business.”
McDermott sounded positive about the future, telling the magazine that his family is “in an uptick.”
