Saturday the Utah Jazz announced that forward Derrick Favors has earned himself a four year deal.
"Utah has become my home and I am excited to be able to continue my career playing for the Jazz and the best fans in the NBA," Favors said
The deal will get him $49 million over the four years, ESPN reports.
Favors, 22, is expected to get a spot in the starting lineup this year for Utah after losing Al Jefferson and Paul Milsap, two big men who played a big role for the team. Last season Favors averaged 9.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists off the bench. The team says that Favors' defense is what earned him the contract extension, according to The Salt Lake Tribune.
Favors had this to say about his primarily defensive role, "Don’t bother me at all," he said. "I go out there, I do what I need to do. I get a job done. The coaches love it. The front office loves it."
Utah's general manager wants Favors to be the team's equivalent to Bill Russell as a defensive presence. Standing at 6-10, 263 pounds, Favors has the tools to get the job done.
