Today marks the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s son, Prince George’s christening in London, England. Breaking away from tradition, the couple has opted for non-royal godparents.
Zara Tindall, Prince William’s cousin, is the only royal in the group of seven chosen as the 3-month-old’s godparents. In addition, they chose his childhood friend William van Cutsem, friend of the late Princess Diana, Julia Samuel, former Private Secretary Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, Earl Grosvenor (son of the Duke of Westminster), the Duchess’ friend Emilia Jardine-Paterson and former University of St. Andrews classmate Oliver Baker.
ABC News notes the godparents they have chosen are a complete departure from those chosen for Prince William. Among his are not close friends but fellow royals, including King Constantine of Greece.
Perhaps the most shocking of the godparents announcement is that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge left out their siblings, The Inquisitr reports. Prince Harry was not named, nor Pippa Middleton or James Middleton.
The ceremony at Chapel Royal at St. James' Palace in London will last 45 minutes today, E! Online reports. It will be a big moment in history for the royals, as it will be the first time in more than 100 years that four generations will be photographed together.
