Marcia Wallace, who voiced Edna Krabappel on The Simpsons, passed away Friday night, and it looked as though her character was the one who producers would kill off. However, executive producer Al Jean revealed that Edna was not the one they meant when they hinted that a character would be killed off the show.
According to TMZ, Krabappel had an entire storyline planned revolving around her newly-wedded life with Ned Flanders. Although Wallace was not able to work on voicing her character in the past few weeks because of her health, producers never wrote her out of the script.
"Earlier we had discussed a potential storyline in which a character passed away. This was not Marcia's Edna Krabappel. Marcia's passing is unrelated and again, a terrible loss for all who had the pleasure of knowing her," Jean said in a statement, reports the Huffington Post.
Due to Wallace's death, Edna will leave the show, but producers are still figuring out just how it will be done.
"I was tremendously saddened to learn this morning of the passing of the brilliant and gracious Marcia Wallace," said Jean. "She was beloved by all at 'The Simpsons' and we intend to retire her irreplaceable character."
Wallace passed away Friday night in her Los Angeles home, surrounded by family. Jean added, "Marcia was such a sweet and talented woman ... she will be missed."
