Ellen DeGeneres and Liz Feldman are working on a half-hour comedy for NBC with a lesbian lead.
Deadline is exclusively reporting that the multi-camera show will be written and executive produced by Feldman. She has previously worked with DeGeneres before, both for the TV host's daytime talk show and her first Oscar hosting gig.
DeGeneres will also serve as executive producer for the currently untitled comedy. Warner Bros. TV and DeGeneres' A Very Good Production will produce. Jeff Kleeman will also be executive producing.
The show will be about a lesbian who gets pregnant with her straight male friend's kid. He then meets and marries the love of his life.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show fits in with NBC's attempts to have gay-themed programming. The network currently has Sean Saves the World, but other shows with gay characters were canceled last season, including Smash, Go On and ABC's Happy Endings.
NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt is openly gay and every network he has worked at he tried to develop shows with LGBT characters. When he worked at Showtime, Greenblatt green lit Queer as Folk and The L Word.
