Fox has ordered the Ancient Egypt drama Hieroglyph straight to series.
The 13-episode series will be written by Travis Beacham (Pacific Rim), according to The Hollywood Reporter. Plan is for production to begin in 2014.
Hieroglyph is about a thief, who is freed from jail to serve the Pharaoh by dealing with the palace's seedier side, sorcerers included.
Peter Chernin, Katherine Pope and Miguel Sapochnik are signed on to executive produce. Sapochnick is also set to direct the first episode.
Fox's chairman of entertainment, Kevin Reilly said, "Travis Beacham has an inventive mind, and he has wrapped this all together in this intoxicating new drama," reports Entertainment Weekly.
He added, "We wanted to do a show about deceit, sex, intrigue in the court and fantastical goings-on - no better place to see that than ancient Egypt."
THR notes that Reilly skipped simply ordering a pilot as a way of changing the current television business method. Straight to series is a way to "unwind us off the cycle." He feels the current system is inefficient and "silly."
