International fans of AMC’s hit zombie drama The Walking Dead will now have to wait only one day to see new episodes during the show’s fourth season. The previous wait time was a week.
TheWrap is reporting that Walking Dead episodes will premiere 24 hours after they do in the U.S. on Fox’s international channels. It will continue for the season’s two eight-episode blocks. The first episode of the fourth season airs on AMC in the U.S. on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 9 p.m.
“We want to prevent the spoilers for sure, we also want to make sure [international viewers] get the best version of the show — not some pirated version,” Liz Dolan, Fox International Channel (FIC) chief marketing officer, explained to TheWrap. “But we also want them to get it super fast.”
Some countries will even get it quicker. In Poland, viewers will only have to wait 19 hours after the U.S. premiere.
FIC aired The Walking Dead in 125 countries last season, including major markets like the U.K., Australia, Poland, Italy, Turkey, Norway, the Balkans, Latin America, the Middle East , Japan and Hong Kong. The network is also using innovative techniques to market the show, which centers on the survivors of a zombie apocalypse.
“Because of FIC’s scale, we have the uncommon luxury of huge, cross-demo reach,” Dolan told TheWrap. She later added, “You can get really creative with what you do on this show, and our teams around the world have been very effective in pushing the boundaries...It is every marketer’s dream.”
