Ja Rule learned a thing or two about cooking while in prison and he’s now writing a cookbook that specializes only in microwave cuisine.

The rapper served a prison sentence for tax evasion and during his two years behind bars, he apparently got pretty skilled at cooking using a microwave. He chose to cook over eating the prison food they provide lawbreakers with.

He appeared on Geoffrey Zakarian’s SiriusXM show Food Talk during the New York City Wine & Food Festival, where Zakarian was interviewing celebrity chefs like Guy Fieri, Bobby Flay and Marcus Samuelsson.

One of the guests who watched the show told Page Six, “He explained that while behind bars he learned to cook anything and everything in a microwave.” Some of the items he cooked while in prison are lasagna and cheesecake.

When Ja Rule got out of jail he released the album Fresh Out Da Pen, MTV News reports.

The episode of Food Talk he appeared in will air on Wednesday.
