Jake Gyllenhaal is revealing some of the rejection he has faced during his career.
According to E! Online, the actor recently admitted that he auditioned for the role of Frodo in Lord of the Rings, a role that was landed by Elijah Wood.
“I remember auditioning for The Lord of the Rings and going in and not being told that I needed a British accent,” he admits. “I really do remember Peter Jackson saying to me, ‘You know that you have to do this in a British accent?’ We heard back it was literally one of the worst auditions.”
Despite the bad audition experience, Gyllenhaal has managed to still have an impressive career, appearing in movies like Brokeback Mountain, Zodiac, End of the Watch, and Prisoners.
The Huffington Post reports that the 32-year-old actor wasn’t the only major actor who was considered for a role in Lord of the Rings. It turns out that Peter Jackson offered the role of Aragorn to Daniel Day-Lewis and Russell Crowe, but they turned it down.
Day-Lewis told MTV in 2009, “[This is] not meant to belittle those films or the poeple [who work on them], because there are people that need to do those films and ove to do those films--they can be fantastically entertaining for the people who love to see them--but it’s not for me.”
Jake Gyllenhaal is currently working on a new film, Nightcrawler.
