DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg said that he offered $75 million to commission three more episodes of Breaking Bad.
He admitted that to TV executives at Mipcom and said the episodes would have taken place after the final episode that aired, Variety reports.
Katzenberg said during his keynote speech, "I had this crazy idea. I was nuts for the show. I had no idea where this season was going."
The DreamWorks CEO added, "The last series cost about $3.5 million an episode. So they would make more profit from these three episodes than they made from five years of the entire series."
Katzenberg said the plan would have been to show the three episodes split into six minute segments shown online over 30 days. The episodes would have been 50 to 99 cents each.
"I said (to them), 'I'm going to create the greatest pay-per-view television event for scripted programming anybody's ever done.'"
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Katzenberg used the story to discuss his belief that no matter how the content is pushed out to the consumer, distributors will pay well.
"There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that millions of people would have downloaded those episodes."
