Quarterback Josh Freeman is reportedly leaving the Buccaneers to sign with the Minnesota Vikings.
The Vikings are giving Freeman a one year deal for $3 million. If you add this to the $5.9 million Freeman will be making from the Bucs for terminating his contract, plus the $2.479 million he made at the start of the season, Josh Freeman will make over $11.4 million before he becomes a free agent, according to ESPN.
What does this mean for the two quarterbacks already in Minnesota? The Vikings depth chart already includes Christian Ponder and Matt Cassel, who got the start in place of the injured Ponder Sunday.
"I think Josh Freeman is a good player," a Vikings source told ESPN. "We just have to figure out where things went wrong in Tampa Bay so we can help him. He is too young not to progress."
USA Today reports that Freeman will not be named the starter when he is with the Vikings, and that Ponder will remain at the top of the depth chart.
Freeman was cut by Tampa Bay on Thursday after having problems with head coach Greg Schiano. Freeman recorded 4,065 passing yards and 27 touchdowns last season.
