Katy Perry has been chosen as the new face of CoverGirl Cosmetics.

According to USA Today, this is the "Roar" singer's first deal with a cosmetics company.

Perry released a statement about the new campaign saying, "In addition to music, I've always considered makeup to be a powerful creative avenue of self-expression."

She also added, "I'm honored to partner with COVERGIRL and share more colors and textures of my approach to beauty to inspire my audience."

Esi Eggleston Bracey, VP and general manager of CoverGirl, said, "Never afraid to express emotion, strength, vulnerability or independence, Katy is the embodiment of a true COVERGIRL - someone we root for, identify with, and get inspiration from."

Perry's campaign for CoverGirl is called "bold new beauty looks" and begins in 2014 for spring.

Us Weekly notes the singer first announced the news on her Twitter account, along with a picture.

Perry first tweeted, "BEAUTIFUL news to share w/you all. Today is my 1st day as a @COVERGIRL! See what happens when you let the light in?"
