Marc Jacobs is leaving Louis Vuitton, LVMH chairman, CEO Bernard Arnault and Jacobs’ business partner Robert Duffy has confirmed.
Jacobs served as creative director of the fashion house but has will now pursue plans to take Marc Jacobs public.
According to WWD, Jacobs’ contract with Louis Vuitton is set to end at the end of the year, so rumors have been swirling that he could be leaving. He didn’t confirm them until this week.
Jacobs was at LV for sixteen years, where he completely transformed the brand. Former Baleciaga director Nicolas Ghesquière is reportedly in the top spot for consideration for Jacobs’ job, USA Today reports.
The Marc Jacobs brand could go public in the next three years, sources say. The show that occurred this morning at Paris Fashion Week, in the Cour Carrée of the Louvre, will mark the end of his tenure at Louis Vuitton. It’s predicted given the right IPO preparation, Jacobs’ own brand could be vastly successful.
