Mark Sanchez will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum by the end of this month.

Sanchez injured the shoulder in the fourth quarter of the Jets' third preseason game against the Giants. According to NFL.com Sanchez's recovery will take four to six months. This surgery will not only end his season, but will most likely bring an end to his days in a Jets uniform. Geno Smith is the starter right now and he is learning the offense. He hasn't been great, but has shown flashes of true potential.

USA Today reports that Sanchez was examined for a second time by orthopedic surgeon James Andrews this week. The initial plan was for Sanchez to rehab the shoulder in hopes of returning this season, but it is clear now that surgery is inevitable.

Sanchez has two years left on his contract but is expected to be released at the end of this season. Sanchez will hopefully be healthy before it is time to test the free agency market in 2014. Sanchez will most likely be picked up as a backup. I think this league has seen enough of him as a starter.
