Melissa McCarthy has responded to the controversy and saying its overblown. Meanwhile, Andy Samberg mocked the controversy in a speech.
As previously reported, Elle magazine got backlash over its cover with McCarthy. The issue was over the fact that the full-figured actress was covered up, while Shailene Woodley and Reese Witherspoon's covers saw more exposed flesh.
The Heat actress spoke with E! News on Monday at the Elle Magazine Women in Hollywood party where she was asked if she expected any complaints.
She simply said, "No, not at all!" McCarthy added, "What I found so bizarre is I picked the coat. I grabbed the coat. I covered up. I had a great black dress on but I thought, it comes out in November."
So McCarthy said, "I was like, 'Give me a big coat to wear. Give the girl some cashmere!'"
Andy Samberg offered his own thoughts on the issue while speaking at the same party, Us Weekly reports. "Talk about a kerfuffle! Have you no shame, Elle magazine and your parent company Hearst Communications? How dare you make a beautiful woman wear a trench coat? An item of clothing never associated with sex and desire, and splattered across your cover like the scat of a monkey armada."
The Brooklyn Nine-Nine then added an interesting comment, "For as hot as all the previous covers were, Melissa's is the hottest one. Not to overshare but I have definitely snuck it into the bathroom a number of times. Ask my wife, that thing is thoroughly dog-eared."
