Michael Douglas remains optimistic about the state of his marriage to Catherine Zeta- Jones, opening up about it on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno on Monday.
The Behind the Candelabra star, 69, revealed he’s “very hopeful” it will work out with his wife of nearly 13 years.
"I've been away for a while, but everything should hopefully be on the up and up," he explained, E! Online reports. "Sometimes people take a little bit of a break, but it doesn't necessarily mean that's the end. I'm very hopeful."
Douglas and Zeta-Jones, 44, have two children together; Dylan, 13 and old Carys, 10.
He gushed about their kids, saying they’re “doing great” and that Dylan wants to be an actor as well.
"He was at me the other day and he said, ‘Look dad, I've been president of my sixth grade, my seventh grade, I'm in eighth grade now and I'm president of the school…I've been on the honor roll for two years straight…Dad, you saw me in Oliver. I played the Artful Dodger.'...He says, ‘Dad, how about throwing me a bone?' I said, ‘Sure, okay. We'll work on it,’” Douglas said.
Regarding his estranged wife, Douglas also told People “things are great” between them, adding “onward and upward.”
Both Douglas and Zeta-Jones, who haven’t been photographed together since last spring, are still wearing their wedding rings.
