Already surrounded by the continuing buzz of her shocking VMA performance, Miley Cyrus finally opened up about her failed relationship with ex-fiancé Liam Hemsworth on an episode of The Ellen Degeneres Show that aired Friday.
The 20-year-old has kept herself busy recently in order to avoid publically discussing the breakup—until now, that is. Degeneres joked, “So the last time you were here, I threw you an engagement party.” Cyrus playfully responded by asking the daytime host if she wanted her money back.
The engagement party, which occurred when Cyrus last appeared on the show in Nov. 2012, included shirtless male strippers parading around the musician.
“I should have kept one of those dudes’ numbers,” said Cyrus on Friday’s episode.
Degeneres then asked the pop singer about the heavy media attention on her split with the 23-year-old Australian actor. “It’s not really as awkward because I’m living it,” said Cyrus.
“I think people spend more time actually thinking about it than I really do,” she continued.
Her newly released album “Bangerz”—which was admittedly inspired by her and Hemsworth’s relationship—has helped to keep her preoccupied. The star often takes to Twitter to promote her latest work and show love to her fans.
“I want to be really clear and determined with everything I’m doing in my life right now, and I have been,” said Cyrus. “I keep saying I’m the happiest I’ve ever been, and that’s not even a dig. That’s just me because I really am genuinely happy finally with myself, which I think sometimes it takes you separating yourself from someone else to really be happy with who you are.”
Cryus states she is ready for new things. “I’m just letting that chapter kind of close and just looking forward to that new one,” she said.
