Motherhood has changed actress Natalie Portman for the better, and in a rare interview, she opens up about her new life.

The Thor: The Dark World star, 32, welcomed her first child, son Aleph, with husband Benjamin Millepied in June 2011.

“I love being a mom,” she told The Telegraph. “I’m less judgmental than before I had a kid. The biggest thing I’ve learnt is that parenting is a totally different experience for every person.”

Portman, who will be relocating with her family to Paris next fall, also said that every mother raises their child in the best way they can.

"Everything is cool, there are no rules – I mean, apart from not hurting your kid. Some people breast-feed until their babies are five, and some don’t breast-feed at all,” she said. “There are no rules about what it means to be a feminist, or a good mother. For some it’s going to be right to go back to work, for others it’s going to be right to stop working completely.”

E! Online notes Portman gushed about the childhood her parents provided her with and said that has shaped how she parents her son.

“They were completely present, completely loving, they allowed me to do what I was passionate about and I understand now how much they protected me,” she said, adding she had a “normal life” that was “far away from movie land."
