NBC apparently likes what it's seeing from the James Spader-led show. The network has given The Blacklist a full-season order.
An additional nine episodes have been ordered for the drama, on top of the initial 13, USA Today reports.
Through its first two episode Blacklist has done well in the 18-49 key demographic and has attracted an average of 12 million viewers. The show does get some help from its lead-in show, The Voice.
The Blacklist follows Red Reddington, a fugitive who returns from the cold to the FBI and offers them a list of criminals more important than he for them to catch. When he first turns himself in, Reddington will only speak to Elizabeth Keen (played by Megan Boone), who is new to the FBI.
NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke said in a statement, "The many layers of Red Reddington and his mysterious reasons for getting into bed with the FBI seem to be fascinating to fans of this show."
Blacklist is the second show to see commitment from a network. Sleepy Hollow was renewed for a second season by Fox on Thursday. The Headless Horseman thriller has shorter seasons though, with 13 episodes per season, making it slightly less expensive than most shows for a network if the ratings dive.
