NBC has announced scheduling changes as it sets the date for Community's return, while canceling two other under performing shows.

The network has canceled Ironside and Welcome to the Family immediately, HitFix reports. Welcome is being pulled after three episodes from its spot on Thursdays. NBC will be bringing Community back for Jan. 2.

Until then, the empty spot in the schedule will be a little bit of mix and match. Parks and Recreation episodes, as well as specials, like The Sound of Music Live!, SNL Halloween and others, will help hold the fort down until the new year.

According to Variety, Ironside will air its fourth episode before being removed from the lineup. Chicago P.D., the Chicago Fire spinoff, will take its spot on Wednesday beginning Jan. 8.

Similar to the empty Thursday night spot, NBC will play various primetime specials and Dateline in the 10 p.m. slot.

HitFix notes that Bob Greenblatt has admitted that the network is doomed for Thursdays until next season as the current schedule is essentially unfixable, with shows like The Michael J. Fox Show already having a full season commitment.
