On this episode of New Girl, Schmidt’s cheating scandal comes to a head, Winston doesn’t have reservations and Nick and Jess do couple-y things.
This episode of New Girl was, honestly, the best that I have seen in a while. It had heart and humor and was great. The shining star in the episode was definitely Cece. Everything she said and did was perfect. This episode, she went from being known as “Jess’s friend” or “Schmidt’s girlfriend” and became her own, real independent character.
Winston: Winston began the episode hanging out with his new cat Ferguson. He walked in on Jess, Nick, Schmidt and Cece planning a double date. At this point, Winston realized that he didn’t have a girlfriend to go on a date with. So, he decided to be the plus one to their double date. In order to be part of the date, his job was to get a reservation at the exclusive Pica restaurant.
Winston tried to get reservations but it was booked. He tried doing an IOU for $10.00 but nothing worked. The waitress offered him the community table. In order to get the table, he had to clear it out. He ate other people's food. He coughed. He did anything to get it clear. He got the table saved for the group but after Schmidt and Cece broke up, it was all for no reason.
I think I have said this (too many times) before but they are wasting Winston. He used to be my favorite character, now he just seems like the dumb roommate that no one likes. He isn’t funny at this point. He is annoying with funny moments.
Jess: Jess spent the episode bonding with Nick and dealing with Schmidt drama. She tried to figure out what was wrong with Schmidt and sent Nick to figure it out. When Nick figured it out, he naturally told her. She spent the rest of the episode trying to make sure that Cece found out. Nick and Jess also had sex a lot in this episode. I get it. They’re a couple. Can we give them a real plotline now?
Nick: Nick was the humor of the episode. Every scene that he was in was a highlight. When he found out that Schmidt was cheating on Cece, he did everything in his power to figure out how not to tell Jess.
Before, he didn’t understand how Schmidt could date Elizabeth and Cece. He was mad at Schmidt for doing it but he still promised not to tell Jess. He tried wearing a helmet during sex to keep from talking. He did tell Jess, however, and she yelled at Schmidt. As the two were arguing, Nick danced in the helmet in the background.
As Jess and Schmidt raced the restaurant, Nick drove slowly to keep from having a confrontation.
Cece: As I stated before, Cece was the best character in the episode. She was so important that I am even giving her a category of her own. Cece spent the episode in the dark. After Schmidt was acting strange, she believed that Schmidt was on drugs. Being a worried girlfriend, she wanted to make sure that he was ok. When Schmidt told her that Nick was cheating on Jess, Cece punched him in the junk.
Schmidt: Schmidt spent the entire episode panicking about Cece and Elizabeth finding out that he was cheating on them. He told Nick and made Nick promise not to tell. He lied and lied and lied to Cece. When on the phone with Elizabeth, he hung up on her because Cece walked in. When they finally arrived to the double date, Schmidt broke down as he told Cece that he was cheating.
Schmidt apologized to Cece and said that he never meant to hurt her. He told her how much she meant to him. He said that he used to be really fat and never had girls like him and now that he does- he doesn’t know what to do. He said he was lost and that he was sorry. Cece (perfectly) cried and broke up with him.
Then Elizabeth came over and pied Schmidt in the face and dumped him. Because both girls dumped him, Schmidt blamed Nick and Jess. He vowed to break them up. (Finally, a Nick/Jess plotline worth watching!)
What did you think of the episode?
