On this week’s New Girl, Schmidt was a douche while Winston, Jess and Nick played Batman.
This was the New Girl episode that I have been waiting for. It was funny, there was character development and Nick and Jess did not spend the episode in bed.
The episode began with Nick, Jess and Winston having a secret meeting in apartment 4C. They were discussing how Schmidt had become a nightmare since the Elizabeth/Cece split. Nick said that he would talk to Schmidt and it would all be better.
When they walked back into the loft, Schmidt was sitting on the couch, eating cold cuts and yelling at the news. Nick decided that he couldn’t handle that. Jess said that she didn’t want Schmidt to go to her party (it was a networking thing- she wouldn’t go if it was her party…) but he said that he was going to show up anyway.
Jess, upset, went to Nick and Winston to figure out what to do. Nick and Winston then told Jess about Schmidt’s pen pal Michael Keaton. When Schmidt was a child, he was going through a rough time so his mother said that Schmidt’s hero, Keaton, had sent him a letter. When college began, Nick took over the job.
Jess said that they should use Keaton to get Schmidt to go back to normal. Nick said no but Jess did it anyway. Jess’ Keaton told Schmidt not to go to the party and to calm down. So he did.
Jess told hangover-Cece that it was safe for her to come to the party. And Cece said that she would come.
After Nick found out that Jess had emailed him and told her that she had caused a big mess. So, Jess’ Keaton emailed back and said that he was going on vacation and couldn’t talk anymore. That made Schmidt sad.
Jess went back to Nick and he sent an email to Schmidt to say that he would be ok. However, Schmidt caught that they were faking Keaton.
Schmidt ended up going to Jess’s party spite them. Jess, freaking out, told Winston to keep Cece occupied and emailed Schmidt that Keaton would meet him outside the loft. Jess dressed up like Batman and waited for Schmidt to come out.
Schmidt told them that he knew that they had hacked Keaton’s email and that they should be ashamed. Nick admitted that he was Michael Keaton and that Schmidt had been emailing him all that time. Schmidt said that he was ok with it but was shocked.
Just as Schmidt realized that Keaton wasn’t real, Cece saw him and was shocked. Also, little kids attacked Schmidt with their candy bags.
Cece ran inside and Jess followed her. Cece said that she wasn’t mad that she had seen Schmidt. She said that she now had closure, which was good. Jess said that they should jump in the “batman-mobile” and get some food. Cece tried to teach her that it was called the Batmobile but Jess couldn’t say it.
Schmidt moved out even though the gang told him not to. Turns out, he is renting the loft across the hall.
