On this week’s episode of New Girl, Schmidt tried to become a better man, Nick inherited money, Winston did nothing but support the plot and Jess took over Nick’s money.
Nick: At the beginning of the episode, Nick inherited 8,000 dollars from his dead father. Instead of saving it, he went to the mall and burned it on things that he didn’t need. He said that he was now a wealthy person and needed a wealthy person vanity photo.
After arriving back to the loft, Nick said that he was going to put the rest of his cash into a box that he kept in his closet of things that he didn’t want to deal with. In the box, Nick showed Jess, that he kept bills and taxes. Jess said that he should try to pay them but he didn’t.
Nick said that he didn’t want to pay his bills or start a savings account because banks were simply “paper bags with walls.”
After Winston reminded Nick that he owed him almost $2,000, Nick accused him of using him for his money. He said that Jess was the only one that he could trust. Jess told him to go to the bar.
Nick went to the bar to blow off steam where he ran into Schmidt. Schmidt told him to give the money to charity. So, drunk-Nick went back to Winston to give him the money. It was then that Nick found out that Jess had used his money to pay his bills the two got into a huge fight.
Nick said that Jess was always trying to change him and that he didn’t like that. He said that Jess thought she was better than him and Jess said she was. Then Nick said that she owned too many purses and threw her purses out the window.
Jess apologized and gave Nick a check for all of the money that she had spent on his bills. Instead of continuing to pout, Nick went to a bank and opened an account. He told Jess that he would do anything for her.
Jess: Jess and Nick didn’t have sex the entire episode, which was awesome. After Jess saw Nick wasting all of his new money, she decided to take it into her own hands. She paid all of his bills for him. After realizing that he was going to be mad, she tried to get all of the money back.
After she didn’t and had the fight with Nick, she had a heart-to-heart talk with homeless Dave. She finally realized that she was wrong about controlling Nick’s life. When she went to the bank to help him open an account, she acted the way that Nick would have. She threw a fit when the banker tried to make them pay a processing fee. How…romantic?
Winston: Winston spent the entire episode supporting the Nick/Jess plot. After Nick got the money, Winston told Jess that Nick owed him the money. Winston shopped with the two at the mall. Winston gave Jess guidance on how to deal with Nick. But, after finding out that Jess had paid Nick’s bills and had gotten into his box, Winston blackmailed her.
Schmidt: Schmidt is a mess. He spent last week trying to break up Nick and Jess. He cheated on Cece and Elizabeth. He is not the same Schmidt that I know and love. He began the episode talking about how miserable he was. He said that he was unwell and had to urinate constantly. He tried to get sympathy from the loft but no one gave it to him. Nick, Jess and Winston were all under the understanding that Schmidt had done something bad.
Schmidt then went to visit his rabbi to talk it out. He wanted to know how to be a better man and his rabbi told him to worry about the needs of others. So Schmidt tried to figure his way out. Schmidt found a biker that had crashed and was choking on his gum. So, Schmidt gave him the Heimlich maneuver.
He went to the hospital to get the man that he saved to call him a good man. The man finally did but pointed out that the man, in the full cast, in the bed next to him was hit by a car fundraising for cancer. Schmidt decided, at that point, it didn’t matter if you were good or bad because bad things happened to good people too.
Schmidt ran back to his rabbi and said that he didn’t need to worry about other people. Then the rabbi and other Jewish men chased Schmidt around a random bar mitzvah. Coming back to the apartment, Winston gave Schmidt a candelabrum and Schmidt said that he was going to put it in the back of his closet.
It is Halloween next week on New Girl!
