The New England Patriots, looking for some help at wide out this week, signed former BYU receiver Austin Collie.
The Patriots have four receivers injured on the sidelines this week so they went out and got a new one. Collie has been struggling with concussions in the recent past, and has been looking for someone to put that aside and sign him for some time now. He was cut by the 49ers after training camp, and he worked out with a few teams after that, including the Pats and the Titans.
According to USA Today the 27 year old receiver only played one game during the 2012 season because of a ruptured patellar tendon. Teams have been worried about his concussion problems, but Collie has been working hard to get a team to take a chance with him.
ESPN reports that Collie had 172 receptions in his first three seasons with the Colts. In his rookie year he had 60 receptions for 676 yards.
The Pats lost their top receiver Danny Ammendola early this season to a groin injury. They also lost two more receivers to injury in rookies Kenbrell Thompkins (shoulder) and Aaron Dobson (neck) in Week 4.
Collie filling in could be a big help for the Patriots. He has been pretty productive when healthy.
