Many celebrities have come forward to show support for Miley Cyrus as she gets some backlash for her recent antics, including twerking on stage at the MTV VMAs, but now a former Beatle is speaking out in her defense.
Paul McCartney, 71, laments he doesn’t understand what the big hoopla surrounding the “Wrecking Ball” singer, 20, is.
"Come on, we've seen worse than that!" he told Sky News, adding he even let is 10-year-old watch her VMAs performance.
"I watched it as an experiment to check, but you look at it and you say, 'what's everyone shouting about?' he said. "I think it was only mildly shocking…it wasn't explicit at all."
Moving on, he talked about the boy band One Directinon’s Beatles comparisons, saying it’s sort of like the “kiss of death” to be compared to the legendary group.
"People expect you to live up to what we did, and we did what we did in a particular period in time, which is very different from now,” he said, E! Online notes.
He does get the appeal, saying they are “young, beautiful boys and that's the attraction. But they can sing and they make good records, so that's what I can see in common—and that the girls love them."
